Man with 'quite a bit' of marijuana faces felony drug charge

On Nov. 18, authorities in Texas reported that a man is facing a first-degree felony charge after police discovered 45 pounds of controlled substances at his home in north Austin. According to news sources, police found marijuana and a derivative form of the drug when they executed a search warrant at the residence, which is located in the 1200 block of Pasadena Drive.

Reports indicate that multiple freezers inside the home contained nearly 33 pounds of tetrahydrocannabinol, the marijuana derivative. This waxy green substance was stored in glass jars. Additional glass jars containing 15 pounds of loose marijuana were located throughout the residence.

Sources say that a Cedar Park Police Department officer read the 62-year-old owner of the home his Miranda Warning before they questioned him. During the investigation, the man reportedly told police, in response to their inquiry, that there was "quite a bit" of marijuana in the home. The man also told officers that all the drugs in the residence belonged to him, according to police records. An unidentified woman who was also at the home at the time that the warrant was executed told police that the drugs were intended for people with health issues.

The man was subsequently taken into custody on allegations of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Because a drug charge in Texas may carry severe penalties upon conviction, individuals who find themselves facing a similar charge may want to seek immediate help from an experienced criminal defense attorney. In some situations, the attorney may be able to keep damaging evidence out of the courtroom, which could ultimately lead to a dismissal of the case.
